With over ten years English teaching experience and having acquired her TEFL qualification, Clare has a great deal to offer learners of English. Over the years she has taught in a variety of organisations and businesses, giving private lessons for children and adults, helping students prepare for exams and interviews or simply building their general level through conversational English. Her friendly and dynamic approach means that every lesson is tailored to the linguistic needs, interests and aspirations of each student using a wide range of carefully selected and prepared materials.
In fact, when it comes to resources, Clare has created a great selection of her own materials which she shares in her blog here on Express Yourself in English. They include everything from grammar explanations to a great selection of games and activities for practicing new language.
A curiosity about languages (in particular French and Hungarian) together with a love of connecting with people from all over the world are what make English teaching more than just a job for Clare. She has taught people from all walks of life, from accountants to heart surgeons, footballers to estate agents.
Clare is originally from Suffolk, England, but since she finished school her studies and work have kept her on the move. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from York University in the North of England, then following a couple of years working in London she went to Limerick, Ireland, where she completed a Master’s degree in classical viola in 2000. Soon after she moved to Prague, Czech Republic where she discovered a love of teaching English alongside continuing her musical activities.
In 2005 she returned to London where she worked at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Barbican Centre as a Project Manager for arts education. Since 2014 she has been living in Nice, France where she teaches English as a Foreign Language.
Other than teaching her interests include playing the violin (particularly Irish folk music), enjoying nature, walking and taking photos, making stop-motion animation, gardening and cooking.
